Parent Support

At Dunmanway FRC, we offer one to one parent support.

This is a free and confidential support service for parents based in the Dunmanway Area and its environs. Parents can seek one-to-one support on any parenting challenge they are facing at this moment in that time. There are no waiting lists and we can also advise on other supports available in the community. At Dunmanway FRC all parents and those in parenting roles are welcome and offered a safe place to talk about the parenting challenges and concerns and to explore ways to address these. Parents call about children of all ages – grand parents, foster parents, carers also call.. Parent support is here to help you when you need it.

We also offer home visits, if you are unable to call into the centre, we can come to you.

Parents Plus

Early Years (Ages 0-6 yrs)

Children (Ages 6-11yrs)

Adolescence (12 yrs +)

These parenting programmes offer practical advice and support for all parents and are run  based on demand. The courses have run in the morning and evenings and for 6 – 8  weeks with each session approximately 2 hours. The course is based on the Parents Plus model of parenting and is open to parents of all backgrounds. Mothers/fathers or a parents with a supportive friend or family member are invited to attend.  A voluntary contribution of €5 per session is welcome. Parents Plus website:

Family Play Group

Tuesdays from 10.15am – 11.45am

The Family Play Group meet weekly at our centre. The group gives children a chance to play and mix with children in support of their development. It is also a social outlet and for parents from all backgrounds living in Dunmanway and surrounding area. €4.00 per family

This service closes for Christmas, Easter, Mid-term breaks and summer months.

Baby Talk

This is a HSE funded programme that runs regularly from the centre, three times a year. It is run by a public health nurse in collaboration with a family support worker. It is six weeks in duration, offering a space for parents of babies 0-6 months to chat. Different talks are organised for the six weeks e.g. breastfeeding, nutrition, baby massage, physiotherapy, mental health and first aid. The group often continues to meet as a peer support group following the six weeks.

Peer Parent Support Groups

From time to time, we have groups that may come together for a course and they continue to then meet as a support for each other. This is always an option for people in our community should they wish to set one up.

Just For Mams

This is a  well-being Program for Mams. It is facilitated by 2 x psychologists and it all about self care, self compassion, self esteem. While it is targeted at Mam’s, it can also include grandmothers or women in general.

The cost of transport and childcare can be covered if this is an issue for people to attend. We cannot arrange the transport or childcare but can cover the cost.

There is no pressure for anyone attending to talk in the group, they are just asked to show up.

This group is all about taking care of yourself! Often mam’s are busy taking care of everyone else. This group offers the space to look at self care, self compassion, self esteem and provides you with skills to help achieve all of these!

Breastfeeding Support Group

Every 1st & 3rd Thursday at FRC Kilbarry Road. This service is offered by Mary O’Donnell, Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

Seasonal Events in the Dunmanway Community Garden

Each year we hold seasonal parties for families in the Dunmanway Community Garden including Easter Party, Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Pizza Party, and Halloween Party!! Keep an eye out for when these will run or contact Aileen on 023-8856818.
